The Descendants is from director Alexander Payne (who is nominated himself in the directing category), who co-wrote the screenplay (also earning a nod). It tells the story of a father of two young girls and his personal challenges as his recently discovered to be cheating wife lands in a life threatening coma. The film has heart and humor in droves and is the type of smaller film that the Academy adores. But, will it be enough to win the highest honor of the night? Movie Fanatic believes that it is currently running a very close second behind The Artist.

When we spoke exclusively with Shailene Woodley in our video interview (below), the young actress spoke to how the experience of filming The Descendants is one she won’t soon forget. Woodley, a Golden Globe nominee for Best Supporting Actress, revealed exactly why the film deserves the top prize in her description of the movie.

If you had asked us two months ago who the leader was for Best Picture, Movie Fanatic would have not even flinched: The Descendants. But as the momentum has shifted here in Hollywood, it still looks like The Artist is the film to beat. But, upsets happen all the time and if The Descendants pulls it off, in our opinion, one fine picture was rewarded.

Here are some of the best Super Bowl betting tips that you could be useful for you to be successful!

1. Research about the team playing on the game, and their performances during the last 10 years, review and analyze the information gathered.

Do comparison of each year’s result. If a particular team won more than five times Super Bowl and the other one is less than two then you can be 90% sure that the first one will gonna win the game. BUT if the first one didn’t won in the last 3 years, follow the second step.

2. Read news, forums, blogs and articles about the teams and players. Before you make a sport picks, you should also know the latest injury as this can be a great factor for the team to lose.

Or you can also bet on the coin flip or if a team will take the ball or defer to the second half. You can wager on the winning coach getting Gatorade dumped on him too, and so much more.

Chronicle: One of the most original films Movie Fanatic has seen in some time, Chronicle chills us to the bone. Filmmaker Josh Trank has taken the found footage sub-genre of movies and given it new life. Three Seattle teens awake to discover they have superpowers. In a terrific stroke of innovation, Trank (who also wrote the film) has the kids enjoy their new-found power by pranking people and generally having fun. The Gothic tale takes place in the early 1900s and finds Radcliffe’s Arthur Kipps recovering from a devastating life turn. His attorney is nursing a broken heart from when his wife died giving birth to their son. Now four, the boy is the only light in Kipps life and even with him in it, he sees more sadness than smiles.

After his law firm gives him an ultimatum to return to work, he takes the assignment of getting a client’s papers in order at her remote mansion after she passed. Once he gets there, the entire village is less than thrilled with his arrival. Why? Therein lays the heart of The Woman in Black story, what happened at that house that has the entire town frightened?

The young lawyer heads out to the haunted looking house day after day in search of a will and anything that will give clues to the deceased’s final wishes. Kipps soon feels he is not alone and the house’s history appears to not be finished with anyone who walks the building’s halls.

Kipps becomes friends with Mr. Daily (Ciaran Hinds), the richest man in town and one who does not believe in any type of superstitious nonsense. Mr. Daily and his onscreen wife, Mrs. Daly, are the most effectively used parts of the film. Recent recipient of an Oscar nomination for Albert Nobbs, Janet McTeer is Mrs. Daly. She and Hinds have a volley in the film that is precious and also heartbreaking. They lost their son many years ago and the two are still in mourning, especially Mrs. Daly.

After the Daily’s reveal, the audience begins to put the pieces together. This village has a nasty habit of losing children to outlandish deaths. They blame: The Woman in Black, a ghost-like woman who appears right before a child perishes. Guess what? Kipps has seen the titular woman on more than one occasion.

Radcliffe is solid as Kipps. Some have argued that he is too young to portray a widowed father of a four-year-old. But, what you have to realize is that people of that time married young. His performance is a great step forward for the actor seeking to move out of the shadow of J.K. Rowling’s world. Through him, the audience experiences the horror that is emanating from the screen. He’s in practically every scene and completely owns the film.

The Woman in Black runs into problems in the final moments of the last act. Its conclusion is less than satisfactory. Mired in the necessity of resolution, screenwriter Jane Goldman seems to have had to rush to her ending. The novel that the film is based on does not suffer that same fate and although it is difficult to bring a book to screen — especially one that is so in the head of its main character — we do salute the effort. The film is riveting enough, but not as gripping as it could have been.

If you haven’t seen Moneyball, do so before Oscar night. The story of Oakland A’s General Manager Billy Beane and how he shook up the over-a-century-old sport transcends sports to the very heart of human nature.
